Kirk Huneycutt is a guitarist whose playing style combines elements of jazz, blues, rock, soul, and folk music. An improviser, composer, songwriter, and educator, Kirk has been playing guitar since 1988, and teaching professionally since 2000. 

Kirk earned a B.A. in music and a minor in jazz studies from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, where he studied with Bob Russell, and received the Talent Deserving Wider Recognition Award. Kirk has also studied privately with Jonathan Kreisberg, Michael Daves, Rebecca Kane, and Lucius Wilson. In addition to teaching independently, Kirk has held positions at Great Scott Music, The School of Learning Art, Musicians Learning Center, Musika, Take Lessons, and Encore Music.

A native North Carolinian, Kirk lived in New York City from 2002 to 2015. Highlights of his time in New York include performing at the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine, helping open Guitar Center's flagship store on 14th Street, recording a double live album with David Bryan and Friends, playing in a reggae band, and teaching professionally full-time for a dozen years.

Some of Kirk's biggest musical influences include Jerry Garcia, Duane Allman, Jimi Hendrix, Wes Montgomery, Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, and Bob Marley. He currently lives in Raleigh with his wife and daughter where he has taught full-time since 2016. In addition to teaching, Kirk writes and records original music available on all major platforms (Spotify, iTunes, Amazon, YouTube Music) and performs on a local and regional level.
